Hythe is a quiet waterside village on the western shore of Southampton Water, with a character shaped equally by the New Forest to the west and the industrial waterfront to the east. Many homes in Hythe enjoy views across to Southampton and benefit from a mild maritime microclimate that allows slightly tender plants to thrive. The village has a good stock of detached and semi-detached homes from the interwar and post-war periods, many with gardens that benefit from a refresh. Dibden Purlieu, on the higher ground to the west, has more recently built estates with younger gardens.

Hythe village centre retains its original residential character with interwar semis and bungalows close to the shore, many with manageable plots well-suited to a quality patio and tidy lawn. Dibden Purlieu's post-war estates on the higher ground offer larger gardens with forest views.
