This Winchester project is one of our favourite examples of how good design can transform a property. A Victorian terrace with a neglected rear garden became a beautifully considered outdoor space that reflects the character of the house and provides genuine year-round enjoyment.
The Brief
The clients wanted a garden that felt in keeping with the Victorian property — natural materials, traditional planting and a design that complemented rather than competed with the architecture. Budget: £16,000 including all materials and labour.
- York sandstone paving on the main terrace — 28m²
- Brick path linking terrace to lawn using reclaimed Hampshire brick
- Formal box hedging along the path edge
- Mixed planting with roses, salvias and perennial borders
- New cultivated turf lawn — 42m²
The Build
The project was completed over eight working days. Natural stone required careful cutting and full mortar bed laying — slower than porcelain but the finished result had a warmth and authenticity that perfectly suited the property.
The Result
The finished garden looked as though it had always been there — a high compliment for any period property garden project. The clients reported that it transformed how they felt about their home.
