Romsey's Victorian and Edwardian properties often come with substantial gardens that have been left to their own devices for years. This project involved a full clearance of a mature, overgrown garden followed by a complete redesign — one of our most satisfying and comprehensive projects of 2025.
The Clearance Phase
The two-day clearance removed years of accumulated growth — overgrown shrubs, a failing pergola structure, bramble-covered lawn areas and a series of disconnected raised beds in poor condition. We retained only a magnificent mature oak standard in one corner.
- Complete removal of 14 overgrown shrubs
- Demolition and removal of rotted pergola
- Clearance of bramble across approximately 30m²
- Removal of six disconnected timber raised beds
- Grinding of three shrub stumps
- All waste removed from site on day two
The Redesign
The redesign created a simple, structured garden centred on the retained oak. A generous paved terrace with sandstone flags adjoined the house, leading to a new lawn with curved borders planted with structural shrubs, grasses and perennials.
The Result
The transformation was dramatic. A garden that had been completely unusable became a beautiful, structured outdoor space that complemented the character of the Victorian property. The project was completed in five days.
