Patio and Turfing Project in Winchester

April 2025·4 min read

Winchester gardens often feature excellent bones — good-sized plots with mature trees and strong boundary structure — but many have dated hard landscaping and tired lawns. This project in a sought-after Winchester postcode involved a new natural stone patio and a complete lawn renovation from scratch.

The Project Scope

The rear garden measured approximately 15m x 12m. The existing concrete patio was cracked and poorly laid with inadequate drainage. The lawn was thin and mossy throughout. The clients wanted a premium result — natural stone paving and high-quality cultivated turf.

  • Full removal of existing concrete patio and disposal
  • Excavation and installation of new sub-base to correct levels
  • Natural York sandstone paving (22m² at 22mm calibrated)
  • Full soil preparation of lawn area — rotovating, levelling, fertilising
  • Premium cultivated turf — 120m² laid in a single day
  • New decorative gravel border along fence line

The Natural Stone Difference

Choosing natural York sandstone rather than concrete or porcelain gives a warmth and character that suits Winchester's predominantly traditional architecture. The stone mellows over time and improves with age, unlike concrete alternatives.

Project Completion

The project was completed in four working days. The clients had their new garden ready for summer entertaining by the end of April — exactly the timeline we had agreed at the initial site visit.
