This Gosport project involved one of the most overgrown gardens we had encountered in some time — a 12-metre by 8-metre rear plot that had not been maintained in over five years, with dense bramble, overgrown laurel and two large self-seeded trees that needed removal.
The Challenge
Access was through a narrow side passage — just 700mm wide — which ruled out machinery for most of the work. Everything had to come out by hand and through the passage. The work required a three-person team over three full days.
- Dense bramble across 60% of the plot
- Two self-seeded sycamores requiring felling and removal
- Overgrown photinia and laurel to boundary height
- Collapsed timber shed requiring demolition and removal
- All waste hand-carried through 700mm side passage
The Process
Day one: felling the trees by hand, processing and removing the timber in manageable sections. Day two: bramble clearance and overgrown shrub removal. Day three: shed demolition, final clearance and site tidy. Twelve trailer loads left the property over the three days.
The Result
The cleared garden revealed a surprisingly level and spacious plot with good topsoil beneath the vegetation. The owners subsequently commissioned us to lay turf and install new fencing — completing the transformation within four weeks.
